Parti Quebecois Needs To Focus

As the Parti Quebecois prepares to take power in Quebec, the Canadian flag, which the Liberals had previously included alongside their provincial flag, has been removed from their legislative assembly. While the separatists like to think of themselves as being one step away from declaring they are a sovereign country, they continue to welcome the federal largesse that Ottawa sends their way.

The PQ actually received only 32% of the vote, hardly a strong support for separation. Rather than trying to appease their minority separatist supporters with antagonistic demands towards Ottawa, I hope they focus their energies on providing a government that meets the needs of all Quebecers and not the ones that make the most noise. The PQ’s promise to eliminate the student tuition hike, currently the lowest in Canada, is already a step in the wrong direction.
