With all the turmoil taking place in various parts of the
world, Christmas is the perfect time for people to celebrate the good things in
life. Although Christmas emanates from the Christian religion, and there are
those that wish to retain that connection, it has evolved into a secular
holiday. From my perspective, that’s great. If people resisted the temptation
to bring religion into a celebration that now goes beyond one set of beliefs,
more people may be inclined to use the opportunity to build bridges between the
many communities that live along side each other. A secular Christmas provides
the opportunity to advance peace and goodwill to everyone without the need to
evaluate the event based on religious convictions. Why can’t we recognize the
benefits of that?
