"Crazy" Wayne LaPierre

Wayne LaPierre, CEO of the U.S. National Rifle Association (NRA) continues to bury his head in the sand. Earlier today he appeared on the weekly television program “Meet the Press” where he stood by his comment about having armed guards in schools. "If it's crazy to call for armed officers in our schools to protect our children, then call me crazy," LaPierre said defiantly. Idiotic he is.

His armed guard answer is one of insanity desperately trying to prevail over reality. LaPierre has failed to consider that one of the biggest challenges in protective personal security is staying alert to your environment. The risk of guarding can easily become complacent, particularly in a school environment where a sedentary routine will be the norm. Anyone intent on killing will not be deterred by an armed guard. By the time a guard realized what was happening, they too would likely be dead. Probably the most protected person in the United States is the president. Armed guards didn’t help Kennedy. Armed guards did not deter the man who shot Reagan. Wake up LaPierre and open your narrow-minded thinking to an approach that has beneficial results and not one that simply reinforces the unacceptable status quo.

Armed guards are not the answer to making schools safer. Stricter gun control is a start in the right direction.
