Unfortunately, we live in a time surrounded by violence,
both real and that created for so-called entertainment. Sadly, too many of us
have become desensitized to the consequences of violence. Even more disturbing
is that those Americans obsessed with their ‘right’ to have guns have little
interest in doing anything to reduce the ever-increasing death rate associated
with guns. Rather than trying to find a common sense approach to the problem,
the gun enthusiasts are increasing their home arsenals. This week, Wal-Mart,
worried about running out of ammunition, placed a limit on how many bullets
people could purchase at one time.
The U.S. National Rifle Association leadership has suggested
that the way to deal with violence is to have more guns to protect people.
Perhaps their next great words of wisdom will be to suggest replacing the hand-held
torch of Lady Liberty (Statue of Liberty, New York) with a rifle. db
