The use of the term “honourable”, a title of respect, has
certainly lost some of its splendour in Canada’s Senate. Notwithstanding the
dedication of some senators, there are those that remain an embarrassment to
that institution. Senators Mac Harb, Patrick Brazeau, Pamela Wallin and Mike
Duffy are under the microscope for claiming expenses for which they were not
entitled to. Rather than resign, as they all ought to, they are trying to save
their hides by offering some cockamamie explanation for their actions that has
no credibility beyond the end of their noses. The longer they stay the more
discredit they bring to the Senate. As far as the word “honourable” goes, they
also say there’s no honour among thieves.
