Close The Back-Door
Most
Canadians probably don’t realize the number of foreigners that spend the final
days of their pregnancy in Canada simply to ensure their child is born
Canadian. Hospitals are reporting that many of those people giving birth in Canada
also do not pay for the associated costs for care. Once the foreigners return
home, the child eventually gets to an age whereby they may opt to return to
Canada and, as they are Canadians, bringing their families with them. This
back-door approach to the many benefits offered by Canada needs to be closed. Politicians
are reluctant to tighten the laws for fear of alienating those respective
communities in Canada. Robert Sibley, Ottawa Citizen, has an excellent article
on this topic in today’s paper. Here’s the link: http://www.ottawacitizen.com/opinion/columnists/trouble+with+birth+tourism/8779826/story.html
