As President Obama tries to persuade U.S. politicians, and
the broader population, that punishing Syrian President Assad is the right
thing to do, the majority of people everywhere are not so sure of what will
happen after. While no one argues that Assad deserves all the punishment that
may come his way, the reality is that the likely end-game here is a choice
between providing a victory to the Al-Qaida backed rebels or keeping the
devil-you-know, Assad, in power. Considering the agenda of the rebels, and the
brutality they are known for, Assad appears as the lesser of two evils. Not the
best choice but perhaps the least problematic over the long-term.
