The debate over
safe-injections sites is polarizing in nature. Notwithstanding the arguments
that lean toward having safe-injection sites, convincing those that have reservations
remains a challenge. Trying to persuade the holdouts that drug addiction is
simply another chronic condition is probably not the best way to get support
from people that require medication for health problems for which they had no responsibility
in creating. If some addicts are having problems overcoming their addiction through
the normal conventional treatments, what is being done to find alternatives? I believe
more people would support safe-injection sites if there was an understanding that
heroin maintenance was a bridge to drug-free better health rather than the unending
solution. If we are not there yet, then when?
