Canada Post Stuck In Status Quo

While I can understand the Liberal Party's pre-election strategy to place the Canada Post ongoing deficit problem on the back burner until after the election, that was one year ago. The second stall tactic was to create a panel to study the obvious. The government panel, actual cost of that unknown, is to come up with some options, even though options have already been clearly articulated. The panel talks about "hard choices", a code for acknowledging the status quo is not an option but reluctant to be specific. If Canada Post was a private enterprise whose bottom line was projected to be forever in the red, or even 6 years as Target estimated as being too long to reach profitability in their Canadian operation, it would be shut down promptly. We are expending too much oxygen talking about ignoring the inevitable, and now spending money, rehashing what needs to be done at Canada Post. The obvious, according to most people, is to (1) continue with the community mailbox program, (2) reduce delivery to Mon-Wed-Fri or some other combination and (3) provide home delivery for a fee, exempting those with a justified medical reason. Maybe then, Canada Post can look forward to a balanced budget. As the expression goes, it is time for less talk and more action.
