Weekend television video news showed some American “Black
Friday” shoppers aggressively elbowing their way through to bargains, some on
the floor wrestling merchandise from other shoppers. One news report showed a frantic
shopper using a stun gun on another person. Security officers in several
locations struggled to maintain some order of reasonable behaviour.
Black Friday in Canada was typically more subdued. No stun
guns. No wrestling other shoppers on the floor. Canadians, often teased for
their apologetic ways, lived up to that reputation. Video news showed some shoppers
in pursuit of their shopping objective bumping into others with the customary “oh,
I am sorry, I am sorry” and/or “excuse me, excuse me”.
NOTE: Whatever the form of apology, Canadians will usually state
it at least twice just in case the other person doesn’t hear the first request
for forgiveness.
