286 Steps, Up or Down!
While relatively new, the stairs located behind Canada’s
Parliament Buildings are fast becoming a new challenge for fitness buffs taking
on the upward climb of 286 steps. The top of the stairs is situated on the
western side of the center block and can be a bit of a hunt to locate.
Until current construction is completed those wishing to access the stairs from
Parliament Hill must proceed from the eastern end of the center block. Follow
the path along the fence and just keep going. Access to the stairs from the
Ottawa River level is more obvious. When taking the stairs down, a short walk
to the canal locks will allow a more gradual climb back to street level. If you
are in the area, it is something to consider.
