Trump & Hypocrisy

President Donald Trump is making a habit of complaining about how the U.S.is being ripped off by others. He has repeatedly threatened to scrap long-standing trade agreements all in he name of what he perceives as being unfair. Fairness implies that everyone should play by the rules. Trump’s actions however suggest that if you don’t like the rules, you work your way around them regardless of what may be just.
Prior to becoming president, Trump boasted how he successfully used loopholes to avoid paying taxes. Unlike other past presidential candidates, Trump has refused to release his income tax filings. It is reported that part of his Bedminster golf course was designated farmland “for growing hay and raising eight goats”. That allowed Trump to reduce his tax bill from $80,000 to $1000. Here’s the thing. How can Trump complain about what he thinks is unfair for the American worker when he himself rips off the same Americans by not paying his full share of taxes. When you consider that hypocrisy is “the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform;” it makes you wonder how long will the American public tolerate the less than honorable behaviour of their president.
