2012 Olympic Costs Are Excessive

With the games of the XXX Olympiad getting underway in London, some people will be focusing their attention on the number of medals athletes will accumulate for the countries they represent while others question the ever-increasing costs for these events. Although there have been estimated costs of $14 billion, the final costs, perhaps billions more, will not be known until after the games become part of Olympic history.

With some tickets for the 42 million dollar opening ceremony reportedly selling for $3100, the games are beyond the affordability of the average person and yet it is the average person that will end up paying for these games. As new host countries always seem anxious to outdo their predecessor in creating the ‘wow’ factor, one can only conclude that taxpayers in Brazil should brace themselves for 2016. db
