Ontario Health Care Needs Major Surgery

While some people may think our health care system is great, waiting to see a specialist 8 or 9 months doesn’t exactly give someone who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor a feeling of being properly cared for. And although there are some people that will heap great praise on our approach to universal health care, that type of thinking, no longer justifiable from my perspective, simply slows down the willingness to look at options other than the status quo.

The Sunday July 15th edition of the Ottawa Citizen had the two undernoted health related stories. The first is about a young man that cannot function independently. As there are currently no available facilities to accommodate his special needs, he continues to occupy a hospital bed which can cost as much as $1500 per day. He should not be there. The second situation involves a man, although wheelchair confined and living independently, needs help once a week in having a bath. He can’t get it and was told to keep doing his sponge bath routine, hardly a long term solution.

Now, after reading these two articles ask yourself if health care in Ontario needs major surgery.
