American Nightmare

With some Americans using the recent movie theatre killings as a reason to demand stricter gun controls, there are others with a pro-gun wild-west mentality arguing that if people in the theatre had weapons there may have been less deaths. From my perspective, perhaps there could have been more.

The notion that people need guns to protect themselves is so entrenched in the minds of some Americans that it could take generations to re-educate people to think otherwise. In the interim, the loose cannons out there, and there are many, will continue to routinely go to their neighbourhood gun store, some conveniently located near a liquor outlet, where they can pick up a gun and a six-pack and then proceed to unleash their frustrations. While the “less-guns” groups continue to argue their case against the “more-guns” groups, the death tally will keep on increasing. This is a real “Made in America” nightmare.  db
