In May 2008, the
Government of Ontario announced that Orleans would receive a medical facility
for primary and community care. While not a hospital, the facility would allow
area residents to be assessed and where possible treated for health issues that
did not require hospitalization. Ground-breaking for the $150 million dollar Orleans
Family Health Hub had been expected to start in March 2011 for an opening in 2013.
If construction which is estimated to take 2+ years were started now, which it
hasn’t, the earliest the facility would be ready is in 2014. Assuming the
government had allocated the funding in their future year financial planning,
as had been implied by their promise to build, there would be more than a sign
on the vacant land. The government needs to explain the reason for the delay.
