No Exceptions For Gun Registry

An Ottawa Citizen columnist is suggesting that the federal government give Quebec their portion of the names in the gun registry before the records are eradicated. This latest appeal to save the doomed registry is a reaction to the Sept. 4th shooting in Montreal. The gunman currently charged in killing one person and wounding another had 21 registered weapons. The gun registry had no bearing on what happened and could not have changed the outcome.
The registry was implemented for political reasons that were motivated by emotion and not logic. Offering Quebec their portion of the registry now would only feed the emotion that started the whole process of wasting taxpayer money. While the registry may give some people a sense of security, a false one from my perspective, it really serves no useful purpose in keeping weapons away from those that should not have them. The federal government should not make exceptions and abolish the registry in its entirety.
