There has been a lot of hype about the newly released movie “Argo”.
Based on a true story about a hostage incident in Iran that started in late
1979 and lasted for 444 days, the movie focuses on an undercover operation by a
U.S. CIA agent who helped orchestrate the safe passage of 6 Americans in hiding
at the residence of Canada’s ambassador to Iran. Although this U.S. made movie
tends to focus its content on what was done by U.S. authorities, it does pay
tribute to Canada’s role in giving refuge to the 6 Americans.
Even though you know how the movie will end, the story line
keeps the audience captivated. The acting is excellent and the movie is already
being touted for Oscar nominations. If you were alive when this crisis was
unfolding, this movie will refresh your recollection of what happened, that is,
according to the U.S. film industry. If you have no knowledge of the event, the
movie will provide an entertaining lesson on history, again, from the American
perspective. If you enjoy a movie that will seize your attention for two hours,
then this may be one for you.
