Orleans Needs Jobs

The City of Ottawa is once again trying to generate ideas that will attract businesses to the Orleans area. While pleased to hear that the City will offer some taxation incentives, the marketing efforts will have to be highly proactive if we expect any significant change to happen. In terms of economic development, Orleans has played second fiddle to other parts of the city for far too long. As our neighbours on the western side of the city rolled out the proverbial red carpet to attract the high-tech sector, Orleans settled for more homes and a business development plan that was primarily retail oriented. As a resident of Orleans for over thirty years, I have listened to many proposals about bringing higher paying jobs to this area. Let’s hope the talk this time translates into something tangible. Mayor Jim Watson is a very shrewd politician possessing both the experience and leadership to make it happen.
