LPC Dilemma

With only a few weeks left in the campaign to become leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, the perceived frontrunners appear to be Marc Garneau, Martha Hall Findlay and Justin Trudeau. Contrary to popular belief, this is not a cakewalk for Justin Trudeau, the person many people believe is the rightful heir to the Liberal throne. Both Garneau and Hall Findlay, as well as others, have emerged as credible candidates.

From my perspective, Justin Trudeau’s surname is both an asset and a liability. It is an asset for those who think he can inject the same amount of dedication and enthusiasm as his father and a liability for those who think the name has surpassed its best before date. While Justin Trudeau may appeal to a younger demographic, his lack of political experience may be the biggest albatross around his candidacy.

All things considered, it is not unreasonable to conclude that if Justin’s surname was anything other than ‘Trudeau’, he may have never made it this far.
