Although it seems apparent that the current Ontario
government has little concern for the inter-provincial infrastructure
requirements of Ottawa, having the premier come here to tell us about the problems
in Toronto less than two weeks after her minister yanks the rug out from under
us was a belittling gesture. Ottawa voters will surely remember this during the
next election.

Ontario Premier Ignores Ottawa
After spending $7 million trying to find an appropriate
solution to address the increasing flow of traffic between Ontario and Quebec,
we are now back to square one. Ten days after Ontario Transportation and
Infrastructure Minister Glen Murray dealt the fatal blow to this undertaking,
the Premier of Ontario, Kathleen Wynne, arrived in Ottawa to give an “important”
speech. While some people may have expected the premier to offer some sort of
hope for a reconsideration of that decision, her visit was for other purposes
and that was to tell us about the need to address the congestion problems in
the greater Toronto and Hamilton areas. It is unfortunate the congestion
problems facing Ottawa, and in particular the heavy volume of truck traffic in
the downtown core, are not being given the same attention.
