RCMP Cpl. Catherine
Galliford is once again garnering media attention with her claim that the RCMP
is about to discharge her. Galliford, once a spokesperson for the RCMP in B.C.,
gained further public recognition when she disclosed that she had been the victim
of sexual harassment in the RCMP. Even though Galliford has publically stated
that the notice of intent to discharge comes as a “blessing”, her continued
dialogue with the media, perhaps an extension of her days as a spokesperson,
serves to question her motivation in doing so. She has been on sick leave since
2006 and medical professionals have now determined that her current disability
precludes her from returning to work. Anyone in a similar situation would
receive a medical discharge and any attempt to try and spin that decision into
some kind of vendetta is without merit.
