Trudeau's Risk

Federal liberal leader Justin Trudeau’s decision to wade into Quebec politics is not without risk. Although he may gain favour with some people, he stands the risk of alienating many others. Mixing religion and politics seldom produces win-win outcomes. Quebec’s current Parti Quebecois government is considering imposing a ban on religious garb, including turbans, hijabs, kippas and visible crucifixes, for those people employed in the public sector. While the ban would satisfy those that seek freedom from religion, there are others that are of the view that freedom of religion is meant to be 24/7.

From my perspective, we would have a lot fewer problems everywhere in the world if religious beliefs and its associated symbols were kept private; for home and places of worship. In our pursuit of trying to be all things to all people, we often create other unnecessary problems. When will we learn?
