Election campaigns are mainly about making promises, some
realistic and many which will never be fulfilled. It is about telling voters
what they want to hear using the mushroom farming approach. Keep them in the
dark and feed them manure. With the current statistical 3-way tie between the
Conservatives, Liberals and NDP it seems evident that unless one of them
dangles a really big eye-popping carrot we'll probably end up with a minority
government. Without that needed persuader which could shift the current
leanings towards a contender with a pragmatic platform as opposed to one whose promises
are lacking in practicality, I suspect there will be those voting with either
crossed fingers or simply holding their nose. With five weeks to go a lot can
happen, and hopefully will.
