Assisted Birth and Assisted Death

As Canadians come to grips with the reality that it is acceptable for an individual faced with imminent death to depart this life with medical assistance, there are those with certain religious beliefs doing what they can to either stop or discourage such action. They are pushing the guilt trip. They believe medical intervention has no role in a person's final days and that nature should takes its course. On the other end, at the beginning of life, they certainly would not oppose medical intervention to save a baby/mother during childbirth. From their perspective it seems it is okay for medical help on arrival but not on departure. While religion may be a source of comfort for some people, the history of the world indicates it is also a source of considerable suffering. The more we can keep all religion a personal matter for home and places of worship, and away from the public domain, the better we will all be. When will we learn?
