Thus far, the discussions regarding a
site for a new hospital, one to replace the Civic location, has focused primarily
on one issue. Notwithstanding the conversation around the use of Central
Experimental Farm property, reasons to keep a new hospital in the same general
area have not been clearly communicated. If it will take 10 to 15 years to build a
new hospital and given that the Civic building has roots going back 100 years,
it is not unrealistic to think the new hospital will be expected to serve
area residents to at least the year 2100. During the coming decades the
population of Ottawa will expand East, South and West. What consideration is
being given to a site that will make the hospital more strategically located
and easily accessible by public transportation for the expanding population? If there are well-founded arguments for keeping the hospital in the same general area they need to be made known.
