The Ottawa
Citizen's decision to publish a report on their front page (March 16th edition)
is, in my view, an attempt to add some degree of importance to a venting
session by an Ottawa Police officer. Constable Paul Heffler's criticism of
Chief Charles Bordeleau's leadership is lacking in substance. Heffler's
observations, while apparently important from his own perspective, overlooks
the broader range of issues that Chief Bordeleau must consider when making
decisions on the allocation and management of his resources. Rather than being
supportive of actions being taken, Heffler's comments are less than
constructive and may only serve to create divisions within an organization that
achieves more when everyone marches to the same drummer. If Heffler is so
dissatisfied with the work he is doing perhaps he should look elsewhere for
employment. After 30 years of service, this could be viewed as an opportunity to
take one final poke at the hierarchy before he retires. A poor attempt at sour
grapes 101.
