Status Quo Challenge For Isolated Communities

This is in response to an article in the Apr. 29th Ottawa Citizen, page NP6. The writer, Tristin Hopper, makes her case to get readers to understand the reluctance of Canada's native people to relocate their communities. The reality is that we have some isolated communities where the quality of life fails to meet some very basic standards. Hopper's observations, while persuasive as it relates to the uprooting of people, did not address what many believe is a critical aspect in finding an enduring remedy to the current band-aid approach to this complex problem.  Communities, wherever they are, need to have the means to survive on their own. As money is an integral component of this discussion, and notwithstanding the compelling emotional arguments, an all-encompassing cost-benefit approach needs to be taken.
