Freedom From Religion = Peace

The current challenges being encountered by the Peel District School Board are part of a wider problem. The growing preoccupation with freedom of religious expression disregards those that desire freedom from religion. Whether it is politics or religion, they are issues which can involve strong personal convictions that often cultivates a high level of intolerance for those with opposing views. Religion is a personal preference which has no relevance in the public domain. While the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms refers to freedom of religion, it also refers to freedom of thought. Shouldn't the latter protect the rights of those that wish freedom from religion? Our world would be a lot more peaceful place if we would all keep our religious beliefs and their associated symbols private, restricted to our homes and places of worship. When will we learn to accept that?
