It is
unfortunate that both Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Conservative leader
Andrew Scheer are trying to score some political points in their response to Premier
Ford’s decision to cancel a planned French-language university at this time. When
it comes to budget management, either at the individual or government level, the
must have items need to take precedence over the nice to have. With part of the
mission statement for the University of Ottawa noting its objective as being for
“the promotion of French culture in
Ontario” and with eastern Ontario likely having the highest percentage of Ontario’s
French speaking residents, the concerns expressed appear more rooted toward the
ballot box.
