He's baaaack! Not
Johnny Carson but Toronto's, and perhaps Canada's, biggest embarrassment, Mayor
Rob Ford. Fresh from a two month stint at rehab, Rob Ford wants to be
re-elected as Toronto's mayor. In an interview earlier this week, Ford finally
acknowledged his issues with substance abuse which he said included alcohol and
most other drugs, except heroin. While most people will wish Ford well in the
days ahead as he tries to lead a better life, his expectation that he could
continue to head the administration of Canada's largest city is without merit.
Although Ford may have brought some positive contributions to the city, and
that's from the perspective of his supporters, those who have not already lost
faith in him are probably in denial. Considering his questionable behaviour during
his time in office, he does not deserve re-election and should save himself
from further disgrace by withdrawing from the election campaign. Two months in
rehab accompanied by an apology and a promise to try and do better just doesn't
cut it, not when your job requires the confidence of the public.
