When you consider the recent decision of Quebec Judge Eliana Marengo regarding her no-head-scarf rule in
her courtroom, you can't help but wonder
if she would have made the same ruling for the type of head-covering worn by
some catholic nuns. While some of the Quebec population may be proud of their
evolution toward a more secularist society, the catholic influence stills
permeates many sectors of the province. Although religion may play a vital role
in the lives of some people, I believe the world would be a more peaceful place
if religious doctrine and its associated symbols were kept as personal matters
for homes and places of worship. But then, those lawyers that spend a good part
of their time challenging these "freedom" related laws would lose a
good source of income.
