Lung Cancer Research Needs Money
Once again, we are reminded by an Ottawa Citizen article that
we are not providing sufficient resources to lung cancer research. The latest example
is Kayla Bradford, a 26-year-old woman who has never smoked. When only 6
percent of research funds are devoted to a disease that causes 25 percent of
cancer deaths it demands a reassessment of our research priorities. It is a
situation made more urgent with the knowledge that lung cancer is a disease
that can target anyone. While some cancer research has benefited from very
successful fund-raising campaigns, it is time to redirect some of that energy
to lung cancer research. How many more people such as Kayla Bradford do we need
to read about before we do what needs to be done?
