Some Senators appear uncomfortable with the Auditor
General's review of all expense claims. Unfortunately, self-entitlement is an
issue in many areas of our society. While the Auditor General could probably
discover dubious expense reports in other government offices, it has been the
actions of a few senators that have brought attention to the Senate. Although
the current comprehensive scrutiny may
be perceived as unfair by those that abide by the rules, the problems
associated with expense claims appears systemic in scope and requiring this
thorough examination. As those with questionable expense claims try and work
themselves out of a hole that they may now find themselves in, Canadians will appreciate
the actions of the Auditor General in seeking the needed explanations. There's
a dark cloud hanging over the "Red Chamber" and the confidence of
Canadians in that institution can only be restored when they are satisfied
there's no more dirty laundry. Until then, Senators should simply provide the A.G.
with the requested explanations without playing the 'victim' card.
