Canada’s Prime Minister Apology is at it again. This time he
is apologizing for a 1939 incident that saw Canada refusing to admit a ship
carrying 907 German Jewish passengers attempting to flee Nazi Germany. While no
one disputes the fact that this was an injustice, these ongoing efforts to offer
amends for the decisions taken decades earlier by others does not alter what
was done. Even Justin Trudeau’s father, former Prime Minister Pierre Elliott
Trudeau, stated that apologies do not erase past injustices and that attempts
to rewrite history can be a never-ending process. Perhaps Justin should have paid
more attention to the words of his father. What’s next? Our PM, joint in hand,
apologizing to everyone that got arrested for possession of marijuana. Don’t
laugh. It is not beyond the realm of possibilities.
