The latest proposed class-action lawsuit against the RCMP appears motivated in part by other recent settlements. The RCMP was founded as a
para-military organization and there is no doubt that acceptable management
practices of the past are no longer appropriate today. While there are probably
not too many former RCMP members that do not have a story or two about being browbeaten
or treated in a manner that may be considered as unacceptable by today’s standards,
there are some that feel they deserve money to mend their delicate
sensibilities. The RCMP is moving forward and a change in culture may take more
than one generation. As some class-actions have the potential to be perceived by
some as a cash-grab, perhaps it is time for those who may feel they were aggrieved
in such a deplorable manner to seek remedy on an individual basis.
