The Trudeau government’s decision to defer the legalization
of recreational cannabis to allow the provinces more time to get sales
distribution organized appears to downplay the importance of having the needed
detection devices on day one for those charged with enforcing related law. Rather
than plowing ahead when there are still some unresolved issues the government
could have waited until satisfied the new legislation could be properly enforced.
If this is strictly about “promise made, promise kept”, especially when there
are other more important concerns for many Canadians, it definitely accentuates
the Trudeau focus on those social issues which are not the main priorities of
the vast majority.
