Donald Trump’s “Art of the Deal” apparently includes the ‘blackmail’
factor and routinely uttering false statements about anything that supports his
thinking that the end justifies the means. He is holding fast on what his administration
is doing to separate children from their families when they illegally cross the
U.S. border from Mexico. He takes credit for what he perceives as a popular
decision among his voting base and blames the Democrats or others as need be
for less appealing decisions. He may only alter course when he gets what he
wants on his terms. His preoccupation with getting the required funding to build
a wall along the Mexican border will satisfy his ego only. While it may deter
some people from crossing, there will be many others that will simply resort to
other means.
The most troubling part of the Trump presidency is the amount
of people that are prepared to ignore the significant element of the “bad”
decisions simply to get a small, perhaps short-lived, dose of what he and his
base think is the “good”. History is likely to be unkind to Trump. The Democrats
really need to get their act together for the mid-terms in November.
