Considering Trump’s ability to alienate all those that do not
share his perspective of how the universe should unfold, his short stay at the
2018 G7 meeting, late arrival and early departure, was less about getting to
Singapore and more about trying to disrespect his allies. As the date for the
G7 was planned years before Trump’s decision was made to meet with the leader
of North Korea, it appears obvious the latter date was an intentional
decision to leave Trump an exit strategy from the G7.
The November mid-term elections in the U.S. will hopefully pave
the way to make Trump a lame duck president for his one and only term. If not, perhaps
a re-energized G6 will emerge.
