It seems the unsavoury aspect associated with the divide and
conquer approach that permeated the last U.S. federal election has started to migrate
north. Based on recent reporting it would appear Canada’s next federal election
campaign could be conducted in a very polarizing atmosphere.
As far as I can recall, the Liberals and the Conservatives
have traditionally stayed close to the political middle with differences that
were often inconsequential. With some people now having a perception that the
current Liberal government is veering too much to the left it is giving the
Conservatives an opportunity for some stronger right leaning ideas.
Notwithstanding our own respective views of what Canada is
or should be our overriding objective should be to keep Canadians united with
our motivation being to try and maintain a level of decorum that does not emulate
the gong show that has taken place within the U.S. leadership.
