Last month, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attended the
funeral of an 18-year-old woman who had been killed in that terrible Toronto shooting.
He did not however attend the funeral service for the two Fredericton police
officers recently killed in the line of duty. Minister Dominic Leblanc, a New
Brunswick native, did attend.
Here’s the thing. The PMO will probably say that Trudeau
visited with the families of the two officers the weekend before. True. What
they will not likely say is that Trudeau was already there in Fredericton for
another unrelated reason and that was to march in the pride parade.
From my perspective, the prime minister should have attended
the service for the two police officers. If he can find time in his schedule to
travel around the country attending pride parades he should have made the time to attend the funeral
service.
