U.S., The Land of Unrest

Although the current state of unrest in the United States may be a surprise to some people, it merely serves to highlight the reality of life in that country. In 1965, I was in Los Angeles right after the Watts riots and saw the damage that was created. The lack of education, jobs and opportunity were cited as the underlying cause. As not much has changed, Americans can probably look forward to more of the same until the issues are addressed. From recurring mass shootings and riots, it makes their patriotic song, “America The Beautiful” a tough sell, especially the line “And crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea”. Lip-service is no substitute for what needs to be done.
