James Holmes----Added To Infamous List

James Holmes now joins the list of infamous people who have achieved their notoriety by mass murder. Who could have thought that there could be any issues of personal safety, or risk of death, for those who ventured out last Thursday evening in the Denver, Colorado suburb of Aurora to catch the premiere midnight showing of the latest ‘Batman’ movie? Holmes, apparently dressed as the “Joker” character, shot 70 people, killing 12 of them. Eleven of the 58 wounded are still listed in critical condition.

While most of the focus in trying to figure out the cause of this tragedy will be directed toward Holmes, those who are opposed to the relatively liberal gun laws will understandably try and direct attention to more gun control. The National Rifle Association (NRA) is one of the most powerful lobbying groups in the United States. The NRA has been the lead champion in an American’s right to bear arms, enshrined in the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. Although those gun-toting Americans with their wild-west mentality are stuck in outdated thinking patterns, there seems to be little political willingness to change anything. Until the death threshold reaches a number that will bring Americans into the streets to demand change, these murderous rampages will continue, a sad but realistic prediction. db
