The current lack of rain is not only affecting the
agricultural sector, it is also creating conditions for the implementation of
mandatory controls for water consumption. The top photo, taken yesterday and
in remarkable contrast to the normal water levels as visible in the bottom
photo, illustrates the seriousness of the situation. We have already been given
a heads-up for higher food prices. Without a beneficial amount of rainfall, it would appear that
water restrictions are inevitable. db
