U.S. Presidents & Religion

With 76% of the American population claiming to be Christians, the United States presidential races always inject some discussion about the candidate’s religious beliefs. Mitt Romney, the current GOP pick for president and a Mormon, is being closely scrutinized for his religious beliefs to assess his suitability for the White House. As there are those that may still look at Mormonism with jaundice eye, that may be a negative factor for Romney at the ballot box.

The great thing about Canadian politics is that religion is a non-issue in electoral campaigns. Perhaps the Americans can learn something from Canada. With all the bible thumpers in the United States, an atheist would have no chance at ever being elected president. After all, what would they do with their “In God We Trust” motto?
