If you have been following the debate in the United States
regarding gun control you must have heard the name Wayne LaPierre, the CEO of
the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the most vocal advocate for more guns
in the hands of Americans. LaPierre’s thinking on resolving the ever-increasing
crime rate involving firearms is to have more firearms. While some people may
think his preoccupation with guns is based on a loyalty to those that pay his
salary, the firearms industry, his fear-provoking rhetoric on the issue is
irresponsible. Americans, including those moderates with a more rational
attitude regarding the acquisition and possession of firearms, will hopefully
distance themselves from LaPierre by terminating their membership in the NRA. LaPierre’s
continued association with the NRA will only bring them further cause for
concern.
