This past February the Government of Canada opened the
Office of Religious Freedom. The opening quote from its mandate states; “
The Office of Religious Freedom fulfills
the Government of Canada’s pledge to speak out and to protect and promote
religious freedom around the world.”
Based on various
surveys, it has been estimated that there’s between 23% and 30% of Canada’s
population that do not believe in a god. With that in mind, why didn’t the
government also promote freedom from religion?
