Bedlam Comes To Egypt

The middle-eastern part of the world seems to have more than their share of problems. In recent history, it has been in Afghanistan and Iraq. Notwithstanding the U.S. led military intervention, they are still killing each other over there. They like their suicide bombers. Then came Libya and Syria with the Arab spring revolution. Toss in a few skirmishes between the Palestinians and the Israelis. Egypt is now going down the same path. Unrest in Iran is probably not far behind. Let’s admit it, people in that part of the world love to kill each other.

The unfortunate part is that those related problems have been around for many generations. Rather than address the issues in a manner that demonstrates a willingness to compromise they would rather pursue a win-lose outcome. No matter how much help they may receive from others, they usually end up reverting back to the winner takes all approach. We think we are doing them a favour when we keep sticking our nose where it is really not welcomed. Perhaps we should let them sort out their problems as intervening seems to only provide a temporary lull to a problem that appears fundamental to their identity.
