Growth Comes With Questions

In the latest rubbish being spewed from the mouths of radical Islamists, Al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahiri is now urging his followers in Egypt to give up trying to bring an Islamist government through democratic means in favour of an armed uprising. Al-Zawahiri added that the laws of God should trump the laws of man. Even if you are a person that believes in a God, the fact that al-Zawahiri stands behind his Islamist interpretation of what constitutes religious ideology, I shudder at that thought that the world, or vast parts of it, could someday be dominated by laws that deprive people everywhere not only of their freedoms but also forces them to accept the subjective and self-serving directions of their religious leaders. The latter, I may add, are people who have structured their lives around books that were written by others thousands of years ago for reasons that we can only speculate. Matters of historical significance should be used to guide us as we move forward, not hinder our development.

From my perspective, if people do not question those issues that should be challenged, they are depriving themselves of personal growth. American astronomer Carl Sagan coined the phrase “extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence”. The following link provides a list of some claims where the preceding quote has merit. http://www.extraordinary-claims.com/
