Keeping Cool Amid The Heat

For many people, particularly those with school-aged children, we are midway through the unofficial two-month summer of July and August. Depending on where you live and your view on what great weather actually is, thus far it has been either terrific or terrible. While I will always prefer temperatures of +30c over -30c, there are those that enjoy cooler temperatures. This blog is for those that feel they are simply enduring the heat and are looking forward to winter.

The Columbia Icefield can provide year-long temperatures that range from 6 months of cool temperatures to the remaining 6 months of freeze your butt weather. Due to the extreme weather conditions, tours of the area operate only during the months of April to October. The size of these ice fields is probably best described as mammoth. The small dark dot further back in the center of the first photo is a bus that transports visitors to the field. When you note the size of the bus in the second photo it provides some perspective on the vastness, dwindling by some estimates, of these ice formations. That's solid and very thick ice under the bus. Both photos were taken in the month of September. Perhaps the images will help keep some people cool this holiday weekend.
